The River Walk Downtown San Antonio, Restaurants and Live Music Venues

The Riverwalk is a collection of awesome restaurants, clubs and shops and seasonal events along the river in Downtown San Antonio and is always hopping with tourists and locals alike. When you visit the Riverwalk be sure and check out the clubs and live music venues where you might find some awesome San Antonio wedding bands that you might want to hire for your own wedding reception. Also visit some of the awesome restaurants there such as Gourdough’s Riverwalk, Boudro’s on the Riverwalk, Rainforest Café or Paesanos Riverwalk. If you’re in the mood for a Mexican flare, try classics like Rio Rio Cantina, Rosario’s Mexican Café Y Cantina, Tito’s Mexican Restaurant or Casa Rio for tried and true Tex-Mex fare.
If you haven’t taken a boat ride down the Riverwalk, be sure to hop on a boat tour and they will take you up and down the entire length of the Riverwalk to get a river’s eye view of all the action. Go Rio River Cruises is a good bet or a Rio Taxi if you choose to go by sea but for you landlubbers, double decker bus rides are also available from Sightseeing San Antonio and will take you through Downtown perched in the top of an open air bus along the Riverwalk for a view of all the shops and restaurants by land instead of sea.

Visit the Alamo

Whether or not you’re a history buff, one stop off if you haven’t seen it is the Alamo. The famed San Antonio land mark is the place where one of the greatest Texas sieges took place in 1836 and was a momentous event in the Texas revolution whereby about 100 Texians were defending the Alamo against 1,500 Mexican troops and ended up being defeated giving Texas it’s rallying cry in their first step in a war to reclaim Texas from Mexico. The Alamo is right on the Riverwalk so it’s a quick and easy jaunt in to check it out while you’re already in the neighborhood of the Riverwalk area. The Alamo is still standing and has been restored in areas that were destroyed by canon fire and makes a great photo op for your visit to San Antonio.

Ride in a horse drawn carriage

There’s no other more romantic mode of travel than a Downtown San Antonio horse and carriage ride. There are lots of horse drawn carriages downtown and nothing sets a romantic feel like a horse drawn carriage ride through the heart of San Antonio and the Bluebonnet Carriage Company offers one half hour rides to most of the San Antonio Downtown landmarks.

The San Antonio Zoo

It’s not just for kids but if you have any kids in town for the wedding reception, then don’t miss the San Antonio Zoo. It’s one of the best zoos in the state of Texas and houses some of the most amazing creatures from Africa and across the globe and is sure to put a grin on your face from ear to ear. If you want more than just observing the animals, be sure to sign up for the giraffe feeding or the okapi feeding or come face to face and pet a kangaroo at Kangaroo Krossing. You can also feed a giant tortoise and ride the zoo train or carousel. This zoo is definitely worth the trip with other interesting animals such as rhinos, hippos, flamingos and a butterfly exhibit. The San Antonio Zoo hosts wedding receptions if you want an exotic reception to the growling of lions and whinnies of zebras.

San Antonio Night Life

If you’re looking for a fun romantic time enjoying some the night life that San Antonio has to offer and like to sings along with your favorite songs, then dueling piano bar “Howl at the Moon” might be right up your alley. They don’t just have a piano player, they add a guitarist, lead vocalist, and drummer pumping out your favorite hits from all eras.
If you’re into the dance club scene then try The Industry which is a 21 and up dance club that dj’s your favorite dance hits. Attire is everything from casual such as jeans, T shirts and baseball caps to upscale attire.
Another dance club is Lush Rooftop which is a trendy nightclub with a DJ, assorted cocktail selection and hookas. The bar is also indoor and outside at the same time to give you the best of both worlds feel.
Looking to have dinner before you go out? Then a local San Antonio landmark that can’t be missed is the Tower of The Americas. This is the rotating downtown restaurant located on a cement and steel beam 750 feet above the city. The restaurant rotates once every hour so that you should be able to view all of San Antonio from a bird’s eye view during dinner. Food is hot and they also serve cocktails as well. The Tower of the Americas also hosts wedding receptions up to 50 people starting currently at $4520.
Having a romantic dinner might be all you’re looking for sometimes and if so, then Biga on the Banks is the fine dining gem you’re looking for with New American cuisine, wines from across the globe and nightly specials.
Into humor? Bring your friends and family to The Laugh Out Loud Comedy Club, which has comedy shows from famous and new and upcoming comics and also serves food and cocktails. This San Antonio club opens up Thursday through Sunday at 4 pm.

The Majestic Theatre

The Majestic Theatre has been a fixture in the city since 1929 and is San Antonio’s biggest theatre featuring plays, Elvis shows, famous rock bands, and every genre of musical artist you can imagine. This theatre seats over 2,000 people and is a Spanish Mediterranean style and is quite beautiful and takes you back to the 1920s. The outside and inside of the theatre hasn’t changed much in almost a century and is breath taking in its beauty. It is one of the most ornate theatres in the country has a tremendous theatrical history. Upholstery and carpeting in the theatre were recently renovated to look exactly like it did when it opened in 1929 giving it that old authentic red carpet feel. The theatre is owned by the city of San Antonio and has three balconies, with two of them being functional for guests. It really is worth the trip while you’re in old San Antonio. If you are looking to host your wedding reception in a legendary and historic theatre, then you can host your wedding in the Majestic Theatre.

Market Square

Market Square is the biggest Mexican Market in Texas and probably in the entire U.S. This San Antonio Mexican market has loads of shops selling everything from jewelry, piñatas, Mexican metal sculptures, Mexican pottery and a dazzling array of Tex-Mex cuisine. If your wedding party has a hangover from too much clubbing the night before, and you haven’t had a breakfast burrito before, then this is the place to have an authentic Mexican breakfast which is the typical hangover cure of your local peeps living in San Antonio. Some popular Mexican Restaurants in the market are Mi Tierra Café, and Panaderia. The Marriott Hotel in the Downtown/Market Square area also hosts wedding receptions

San Antonio Botanical Gardens

The Green spaces with a variety of plants and flowers inside the San Antonio Botanical Gardens are a relaxing romantic getaway for you and your fiancé or family and friends attending the your wedding for that matter. These gardens are huge sprawling out over 38 acres with fragrant flowers, beautiful plants, birds, and outdoor playgrounds for the kids. The gardens also host special events including Summer Nights during the Summer time every Thursday July to August 6-9 pm featuring live music from some of the best local bands San Antonio has to offer. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets and tap your foot to local rock bands, jazz bands, blues bands, pop bands and country band favorites from across Texas. The San Antonio Botanical Gardens hosts weddings just in case you’re looking to have your wedding in a beautiful garden.

Six Flags Fiesta Texas

One of the best amusement parks in the state, Six Flags Fiesta Texas is just the ticket for that adrenaline rush for you, your fiancé, your wedding party and family while you’re in town for your wedding reception. Even if you’re a San Antonio native, you will find plenty excitement for all your friends and relatives coming in town. From roller coasters to kiddie rides to live enterainment, there is something for all ages to see and do. The park also includes includes a water park featuring water rides, a lazy river, bamboo chutes, and a water roller coaster called the Bahama Blaster. You can always hit Six Flags in the morning, ride all the coasters and then head over to the water park as it gets hotter later in the day to cool off.

San Antonio Aquarium

Not just a collection of fish, the San Antonio Aquarium is an adventure of lizards, other kinds of reptiles, birds, mammals and all sorts of creatures. Interact with the lemurs or feed the stingrays and sharks, the San Antonio Aquarium is a great place not just for adults but for any of your guest arriving for the wedding with kids in tow. For the really adventurous, you can book a swim with the sharks and stingrays. At time of writing, this costs $40 and lasts about 15 minutes.
